Terry is a scholar of religion in the United States paying close attention to current trends related to religion and spirituality. His work examines the moves of emerging generations to explore, experiment, and discover the ExtraSuperVery (Extraordinary, Supernatural, or Very Meaningful) aspects of life. This leads him into places like enchanted forests, skate parks, and sporting arenas as well as traditional religious sites to conduct his research. As an ethnographer and qualitative researcher, he journeys with his consultants into interesting adventures like pilgrimaging the Camino de Santiago, playing games, reading Tarot cards, or visiting palm readers.
Currently, Terry holds the position of Associate Teaching Professor at Arizona State University where he teaches courses like Spirituality in America, Religion and Sports, Religion and Popular Culture, and Religion in the United States.
Terry is the co-editor of the International Journal of Sport and Religion and author of several publications.
